I hope everyone had a restful weekend and is ready for another GREAT week of school! We have a lot of learning planned for the kids, so we're hoping they're as eager to learn it as we are to teach it.
Before I list off the agenda for the week, I'd like to welcome Sharla Wiesner to our class! She will be co-teaching with me in the mornings to assist with reading and math. She will primarily focus on the Kindergarten kids, but the 1st graders will get to spend some time with her too! I'm so excited and thankful that she can join us. If you see her, please welcome her!
This week we will really be diving into the learning. I have finished assessing all of the students in reading and math. Now that I am more familiar with their abilities, we can really get moving!
In 1st grade Reading, we will be focusing on Main Idea, Summarizing, Short 'a' words, and the "ch" sound! The Kindergarteners are going to continue to learn new words.
We are going to put Science on hold for a week, while we do a week of Social Studies. We will be studying Community Helpers. I'm very excited for our (school-wide) trip to the Fire Station on Thursday and a guest speaker for our class on Friday! It's always good to be familiar with the community and those in it.
In Math this week, we'll be working on counting forwards, backwards, by 2s, by 5s, and writing tally marks! Please make sure you're practicing these concepts at home to reinforce the learning!
I'm going to try out a calendar print-out for the homework notes this week. We'll see how it goes and if we want to continue with it, otherwise, we'll go to Plan B! :)
Thanks for your involvement in your students' education and raising such adorable kids! It's a privilege to be their teacher!
Hi Ms. Wacek... thanks for the newsletter update. We like your calendar printout for homework. Less worry we are missing something.
ReplyDeleteA couple questions:
1. Will you be giving us a report on Andar's assessment?
2. What number ranges will you be teaching in counting forward and backwards and by 2's and 5's?
We sent back Andar's field trip form. Thank you to the school for covering lunch.
